The most beautiful beaches of Florianopolis

Florianopolis is the major tourist attraction of Santa Catarina because of its beautiful beaches, surrounding islands and also the town itself. At the edge of the city there are mountains, mangroves, and sand dunes making the city a popular base for island excursions that have a more remote, tranquil setting.

Cariho American Indians were the first inhabitants of Florianopolis area when the Portuguese arrived in the 17th century. In 1714 the territory first named Desterro had the category of a village, later on eventually grew into the capital of the island known today as Florianopolis.

Highlights

Central Florianopolis has some great architectural and historical highlights, the western and southern sides still reflects the 18th century colonial times. Scrolling down through the narrow streets and original neighborhoods you will find yourself at the Praca 15 de Novembro where you can buy your souvenirs from the local artisans selling their handicrafts. Palacio Cruz e Souza is another magnificent place to see in Florianopolis which was once the governor’s residence. You can enjoy the bland of baroque and neoclassical art, décor and furniture visiting the Museu Historico de Santa Catarina.

Beaches

The east coast of the island is full of beautiful beaches. Lagoa da Conceicao, a lagoon is connected with the open see by a canal named Barra da Lagoa. One of the famous beaches is Praia da Joaquina which won fame around 1970s when surfers came from all around the world to enjoy its high and beautiful waves. Since then this place gives home for the national surfing championships every summer.

Transportation

The city’s main bus terminal is Rita Maria, located by the Pedro Ivo Campos Bridge. The terminal, serving thousands of people daily connects Florianopolis with the majority of the cities and villages of Santa Catarina. Besides the buses minibuses are also available to take people to the most of the beaches and locations.  The airport of the island named Hercílio Luz International Airport is located 12 km south of the city also served by buses and taxis.

Lodging

The only luxury hotel in the city centre is Florianpolis Palace and has excellent and amazing facilities. The more popular hotels for visiting people are near the beach where you can enjoy both the facilities of the hotel and the beautiful sight to the see.
