When Brazil comes up in a discussion, your mind automatically wanders to samba music and dancing, Rio, basically fun. Brazil is an outstanding multicultural country which is reflected in their way of life, especially in their festivals. So being a country with all year around festivals, there is always possibility to have fun with the locals, dancing and partying together on the beaches or in the vibrant cities. So if you decide to take a trip to the land of carnivals, here are a couple of festivals you shouldn’t miss out.

 

1. Carnival of Rio

It is probably the most famous and most visited festival in Brazil. It is held forty-six days before Easter.  The carnival is actually a big samba competition. All the samba schools prepare all year round for this big event, after all there can only be one winner, judged according to costumes, themes and performances.  The music, the costumes, the colors are mesmerizing and the atmosphere is fantastic. Do keep in mind that Rio in the time of the carnival will be overcrowded, so make reservation to the hotels in advance.

2. Limeira Tattoo Festival

For those who love tattoos, the Limeira Tattoo fest is the place to be, if they happen to be in Brazil at the time.  Happening in Rio-Carlo, São-Paolo, this convention brings together the greatest tattoo artists of Brazil.

3. Parada do Orgulho GLBT (Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Pride Parade)

Said to be the largest event of it’s kind in the world, with over 3 million participants, the parade takes place around June on the streets of  São-Paolo. Safety is maintained with more then 1000 police officers on duty and cameras.

4. Planet Pop Festival

Planet Pop Festival is an annual festival in Brazil. The show had its first edition in the year of 2003, since then it is held every year. The festival gathers those who like live music and quality performances with bands and singers from all over the world.

5. Parintins’ Boi-Bumba Folkloric Festival

It is another representative festival in Brazil. The festival took place in a spectacular landscape at the banks of the Amazon, in Parintins. Fiery performances, music, dance and fancy costumes will be presented by the festival so the Parintins Folk Festival no less fantastic event than the Rio Carnival. It would be wise if you make reservations in advance in the hotel or hostel.
